Warm weather has finally come to Michigan and that means Michiganders are spending more time outside. If you’re looking for something fun to do, why not check out what the Detroit Zoo has to offer this summer?
Sunset at the Zoo: Penguin Palooza
This event is a 21-and-older annual fundraising gala. This year, the Detroit Zoo is using the event to celebrate the new Polk Penguin Conservation Center. The event will take place June 10 from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $150 to $300 and the Zoo will be closing early at 1 p.m. in order to prepare for the evening gala.
Wild Summer Nights Concert Series

This concert series at the Detroit Zoo is a recurring event every Wednesday night throughout July and August. The concert is free with admission to the Zoo, or $6 after 6 p.m., and takes place in the Zoo’s Main Picnic Grove from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Live music featured at Wild Summer Nights includes children’s, jazz, pop, folk and blues. Different nights will feature different artists. While food, snacks, beer, wine and soft drinks are available for purchase from Zoo concessions, attendees are welcome to bring a blanket and pack a picnic.
Wild Beasts Wild Wine
Come and taste wine from more than 40 local and national wineries and vineyards July 22 from 6-10 p.m. at the Detroit Zoo during the Wild Beasts Wild Wine event. Advance tickets are on sale for $40. Tickets at the gate (if not sold out) will cost $45. Your purchase includes admission and 10 wine-tasting tickets (additional wine-tasting tickets and food can be purchased on site). Designated driver tickets, which include admission to the Zoo and unlimited soft drinks, are also available for $25. Attendees must be 21 or older to attend. Photo ID is required.
Zoo Brew
If wine tasting isn’t your thing, you might want to check out Zoo Brew August 18 from 6-10 p.m. Member presale tickets will be available June 13 with general public ticket sales opening June 20. Tickets cost $40 ($45 at the gate) and grant you admission to the Zoo and 12 beer-tasting tickets (additional beer-tasting tickets and food will be available for purchase on site). As with Wild Beasts Wild Wine, designated driver tickets will be available for $25. Attendees must be 21 or older to attend. Photo ID is required.
Senior Day

Seniors 62 years of age and older (and one caregiver) from Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties are invited to attend the Detroit Zoo free of charge on September 7 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Senior Day will feature live music, tram tours, bingo, zookeeper talks and a senior resource area.
Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo
Grab your best pair of running shoes and get ready for the annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo September 11, 2016. There will be 5K and 10K runs, the Too Wild! 5K+10K combo, plus a non-competitive 1.5-mile Fun Walk. This event raises funds for the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the animals of the Detroit Zoo.
